I am interested in a contemporary myth. A background in art history, as well as an interest in sociology and myth from prehistoric to contemporary times informs my work and ideas. Conceptually, I explore ideas about human nature via the figure.
Each artwork starts with my studied field of photography. I then use paint, wax and other media to transform the surface to a more visceral topography, which is instinctual to my process. Further, I feel it is necessary to affect the surface of the art for a more accurate presentation of the human form due to its own anomalies.
Each piece is rather large in scale so as to affect the relational quality for the viewer. A body of work about human nature should represent those forms as close to life size as possible. In addition, each work is a unique print. Due to the unique layering and mixed media approach to my work, these pieces are one of a kind mixed media encaustic artworks on rice paper.
