The Shadow
Photographic based mixed media works on clear film

This series is comprised of photographed silhouettes on a veil which explore inner states of human nature through archetypal imagery. As an adult not raised by biological parents, I am forever intrigued by the underlying reasons, and differences, between learned and genetic behavior. Personal study of diverse myth-based cultures, including archetypes within Jungian psychology, blend in this body of work which endeavors to explore aspects of the personality that are rejected, or cannot be seen easily. The 'hard to see' concept is enhanced through the presentation of a stark image on clear film, which when hung away from a wall, visually creates a three dimensional effect, as well as a symbiotic relationship between figure and environment.

Through challenging my own western views on contemporary ideology and incorporating ideas from other cultures, the series reflects a romantic's vision of lost cultures.

Each print has been treated with an additional mixed media process that furthers the concept of the piece and adds to the archival integrity. Due to the anomolies of the mixed media process these are unique prints in a limited edition of 10. Price on request.
